**Makes 2 Loaves
2 c. warm water
1 T. yeast
1 T. shortening or margarine
2 T. sugar
2 t. salt
⅓ c. powdered milk
⅓ c. instant potato flakes (optional)
In large mixer place yeast, sugar, salt, milk, shortening, and flakes. Add warm water and mix well.
Slowly add enough bread flour (about 6 cups) to make a soft dough. Knead for at least 5 minutes.
Let rise until double. (1 Hour)
Roll into loaf shapes and place in greased loaf pans.
Let rise again for 30 minutes, until doubled.
Bake at 375* for 35 minutes or until golden.
*Here are some hints for bread making.
- If you are lucky enough to have one of those bread machines, and they work for you, then read no more.
- Find a few recipes you can really work with and have success, then don’t try any new ones.
- Try to use bread flour, whenever possible
- Test your yeast occasionally. I try to use the SAF brand of yeast, but I know people who don’t like it
- Use a bread mixer whenever you can. I have a Kitchenetics brand; Bosch is also good. Just let the mixer do the kneading and the other work.
- Practice, practice, and practice. Some times will be less successful than others, but most results are edible.
